Once we have finished ‘implementing’ service management, there is a tendency for management to assume that we have done all that we need to do and it will now just run itself so they can reduce the resources devoted to it.
Whilst this may be okay for a while (perhaps even a year or so) eventually the focus will fade, the benefits of service management, if not actively pursued, will diminish, further harming the perception of the success of the initiative (and those involved in its implementation).
